Biaxin (Clamycin, Synclar, Clathromycin, Klaricid, Prevpac) is a macrolide antibiotic, which is indicated for treatment of infections caused by certain bacteria.
How Taken
Biaxin (Clamycin, Synclar, Clathromycin, Klaricid, Prevpac) may be taken with or without a meal. It is advised to take Biaxin (Clamycin, Synclar, Clathromycin, Klaricid, Prevpac) at the same time every day for better effect. Continue taking Biaxin (Clamycin, Synclar, Clathromycin, Klaricid, Prevpac) even if you feel better. Do not stop taking it without your doctor`s approval. Consult with your doctor about the dosage suitable for you.
Warnings/Precautions
Before taking Biaxin (Clamycin, Synclar, Clathromycin, Klaricid, Prevpac), tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances, if you have diarrhea, a stomach infection, a blood disorder, severe kidney problems, or liver problems, if you are planning to become pregnant or are breast–feeding. This medicine has been shown to cause harm to the fetus. Biaxin (Clamycin, Synclar, Clathromycin, Klaricid, Prevpac) is not recommended for use during pregnancy except when no other antibiotics can be used. If you think you may be pregnant, contact your doctor. You will need to discuss the benefits and risks of using Biaxin (Clamycin, Synclar, Clathromycin, Klaricid, Prevpac) while you are pregnant. It is not known if Biaxin (Clamycin, Synclar, Clathromycin, Klaricid, Prevpac) is found in breast milk. If you are or will be breast–feeding while you use Biaxin (Clamycin, Synclar, Clathromycin, Klaricid, Prevpac), check with your doctor. Discuss any possible risks to your baby. Some medicines may interact with Biaxin (Clamycin, Synclar, Clathromycin, Klaricid, Prevpac). Therefore tell your doctor of all prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement that you are taking. Contact your doctor promptly if you develop stomach pain or cramps, severe diarrhea, or bloody stools. Do not treat diarrhea without first checking with your doctor. Do not take Biaxin (Clamycin, Synclar, Clathromycin, Klaricid, Prevpac) if you are allergic to any ingredient of Biaxin (Clamycin, Synclar, Clathromycin, Klaricid, Prevpac) or any other macrolide, if you are taking cisapride, cyclosporine, dofetilide, eletriptan, ergot alkaloids, H1 antagonists, pimozide, QT–prolonging agents, quinolones, or sumatriptan. Biaxin (Clamycin, Synclar, Clathromycin, Klaricid, Prevpac) only works against bacteria. It does not treat viral infections (e.g., the common cold). Long–term or repeated use of Biaxin (Clamycin, Synclar, Clathromycin, Klaricid, Prevpac) may cause a second infection. Tell your doctor if signs of a second infection occur. Your medicine may need to be changed to treat this. Lab tests, including complete blood counts, may be performed while you use Biaxin (Clamycin, Synclar, Clathromycin, Klaricid, Prevpac). These tests may be used to monitor your condition or check for side effects. Be sure to keep all doctor and lab appointments. Biaxin (Clamycin, Synclar, Clathromycin, Klaricid, Prevpac) should not be used in children younger than 6 months old. Safety and effectiveness in these children have not been confirmed.
Missed Dose
If you miss a dose take it as soon as you remember. However if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the Missed Dose and continue your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.
Possible Side Effects
Some of the Possible Side Effects are- Abnormal taste, diarrhea, headache, indigestion, nausea, stomach discomfort, vomiting. Contact your doctor if any of these or other side effects occur. If you experience any of the following serious side effects, you should seek medical attention immediately- allergic reactions (rash, hives, itching, difficulty breathing, tightness in the chest, swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue), bloody stools, confusion, decreased urination, depression, emotional or mood changes, hallucinations, nightmares, severe diarrhea, severe stomach pain/cramps, trouble sleeping.
Storage
Store Biaxin (Clamycin, Synclar, Clathromycin, Klaricid, Prevpac) at room temperature, between 68 –77 F (20 –25 C) in a well–closed container. Store away from heat, moisture, and light. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep Biaxin (Clamycin, Synclar, Clathromycin, Klaricid, Prevpac) out of the reach of children.
Overdose
If overdose is suspected seek medical attention immediately. Some of the symptoms of Biaxin (Clamycin, Synclar, Clathromycin, Klaricid, Prevpac) overdose may include diarrhea, nausea, stomach pain, vomiting.

Cleocin (Clindamycin Capsules) is used for treatment of serious infections caused by certain bacteria. It is not used to treat meningitis.
