Drug Uses
Minomycin (Minocycline) is used for treatment of infection caused by certain bacteria. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.
How Taken
Take Minomycin (Minocycline) with a full glass of water as directed by your doctor. Do not lie down for 30 minutes after taking Minomycin (Minocycline). Take Minomycin (Minocycline) with or without a meal. If you also take bismuth salts, calcium salts, colestipol, iron salts, magnesium, urinary alkalinizes (eg, daily antacids), sucralfate, vitamins/minerals, quinapril, didanosine, or zinc salts, do not take them within 2 to 3 hours before or after taking Minomycin (Minocycline). To clear up your infection completely, take Minomycin (Minocycline) for the full course of treatment. Keep taking it even if you feel better in a few days.
Warnings/Precautions
Before taking Minomycin (Minocycline), tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances, if you are allergic to any ingredient in Minomycin (Minocycline), if you have kidney problems, if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant or are breast–feeding. Minomycin (Minocycline) has been shown to cause harm to the fetus. If you think you may be pregnant, contact your doctor. You will need to discuss the benefits and risks of using Minomycin (Minocycline) while you are pregnant. Minomycin (Minocycline) is found in breast milk. Do not breast–feed while taking Minomycin (Minocycline). Some medicines may interact with Minomycin (Minocycline). Therefore tell your doctor of all prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement that you are taking. Minomycin (Minocycline) may cause you to become sunburned more easily. Avoid the sun, sunlamps, or tanning booths until you know how you react to Minomycin (Minocycline). Use a sunscreen or wear protective clothing if you must be outside for a prolonged period. Long–term or repeated use of Minomycin (Minocycline) may cause a second infection. Tell your doctor if signs of a second infection occur. Minomycin (Minocycline) only works against bacteria, it does not treat viral infections (eg, the common cold). Contact your doctor right away if stomach pain or cramps, severe diarrhea, or bloody stools occur. Tell your doctor or dentist that you take Minomycin (Minocycline) before you receive any medical or dental care, emergency care, or surgery. Hormonal birth control (eg, birth control pills) may not work as well while you are using Minomycin (Minocycline). To prevent pregnancy, use an extra form of birth control (eg, condoms). Elderly patients may be more sensitive to the effects of this drug. Minomycin (Minocycline) should not be used in children younger than 8 years old, safety and effectiveness in these children have not been confirmed.
Missed Dose
If you miss a dose take it as soon as you remember. However if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the Missed Dose and continue your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.
Possible Side Effects
Some of the Possible Side Effects are- Abnormal skin sensations, changes in nail color, cough, decreased hearing, diarrhea, difficulty swallowing, dizziness, drowsiness, feeling of a whirling motion, fever, hair loss, incomplete development of tooth enamel in children, inflammation of the mouth, lightheadedness, nausea, sensitivity to sunlight, skin inflammation, skin inflammation in the anal and genital areas, unsteadiness, vomiting, worsening of asthma. Contact your doctor if any of these or other side effects occur. If you experience any of the following serious side effects, you should seek medical attention immediately- allergic reactions, bloody stools, blurred vision, bulging soft spots in infants, headache, increased pressure in the head, inflammation of the pancreas (stomach tenderness, nausea, vomiting, fever, increased pulse), ringing in the ears, seizures, severe diarrhea, severe skin reaction to the sun, stomach pain/cramps, vaginal irritation or discharge.
Storage
Store Minomycin (Minocycline) at 68 – 77 °F (20 – 25 °C). Store away from heat, moisture, and light. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep Minomycin (Minocycline) out of the reach of children.
Overdose
If overdose is suspected seek medical attention immediately.

Minomycin (Minocycline) may cause drowsiness, dizziness, lightheadedness, or blurred vision. These effects may worsen if Minomycin (Minocycline) is taken with alcohol or certain other medications. Use Minomycin (Minocycline) with caution. Do not drive or perform other possibly unsafe tasks until you know how you react to this drug. Cleocin (Clindamycin Capsules) is used for treatment of serious infections caused by certain bacteria. It is not used to treat meningitis.
Bactrim (Contrimazole, Abacin, Bactin, Bactramin, Bactrimel) is an antibiotic combination containing a sulfonamide antibiotic and is used for treatment of infections caused be certain bacteria.
Keflex (Cephalexin) is used for treatment of certain bacterial infections. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.
Macrobid (Uritop, Alfuran, Cyantin, Cystit, Furadantin) is used for treatment of urinary tract infections caused by certain bacteria.
